Imagination

Henry's been playing with Noah and Sally for about a half hour now. Chatter back and forth constantly. Lots of stuff about going to school, vacuuming, and leaving for work.

Then there was a mashup of "Pants on the Ground" and "Stop and Go." "STop and go, stop and go, looking like a fool with your stop and go!" And then a "Wham, bam, thank you ma'am!" thrown in there for good measure.

Catching up on stories

Today Henry said, "I have your clo'!" He was referring to my shirt, and was using the singular form of what he thought was "clothes."

---

Yesterday, Henry said, "Someday *I'm* going to be a daddy!" And I agreed with him, and he was thoughtful for a bit, and then he said, "And then Daddy will be Henry!" Like he thought there was only one daddy in the world. <3

The other day we were taking a walk, and we walked past a "For Sale" sign. Henry asked what it was and I said it meant that the house was for sale. He thought for a bit and said, "Just like Caps for Sale!"

Future Doctor

Yesterday, we sitting on the couch, reading books together. Every so often he gets really interested in my tummy and Baby Charlie being in there, and will ask lots of questions about it. This time, he asked me if I could "open my tummy" (which was his way of asking if I can pull my shirt up so he could see it). So I did, and he got this old pair of headphones that he likes to play with, and put them on his ears. Then he pretended to squeeze something, and moved the headphone plug all around my stomach, and then made this "woosh woosh woosh" sound. He was totally pretending to hear the baby's heartbeat, like the doctor does during my checkups. So adorable. Then, he said, "I need a napkin!" and took off his sock (?) and pretended to wipe all the goo off, just like Dr. S. does. It was so cute. He does love hearing the heartbeat when we go to my checkups, but it's amazing how many details kids pick up on, like the goo and the Kleenex.

Miah took this video the other day that I'll have to post on here soon. He found Henry in his bedroom, on the rocking chair, with the Boppy around his waist and his Baby Charlie doll swaddled in his Lovey, gently rocking it back and forth. Just out of the blue. Aw. He's such a good kid.

Funnies

This morning, Henry was monkeying around on the couch/chair combination and said, "Watch me do something interesting!" :)

--

A few weeks ago we were getting out of the shower, and he looked at me for a little bit and then asked, "Woah, those your breastes Mama?"

--

And speaking of such, he's constantly talking about "pee pees" and "aginuses." "You push your aginus down when you go potty mama?" And the other day, also after a shower, he asked, "You got hair on your bommom, mama?" Yikes.

--

Miah said that Henry asked, when they were reading "Owl At Home," whether the outlines of Owl's footprints under the covers were "Frog and Toad's bommoms?"

A tiny girl

I made Henry some chocolate milk today. He asked me if I liked chocolate milk, and I told him that I don't usually drink it. He said, "You liked it when you were a tiny girl! But now you're a big girl." LOL.

An epic tantrum

Also yesterday was a terrible temper tantrum. I can count on both hands the number of times Henry has had them, so I am lucky. I still think they're sort of funny, actually.

Anyway, Miah was leaving for work, and Henry had an accident. I rushed him to the bathroom, which set him off because he wanted to wave at Miah. I rushed him back to the window, but that wasn't good enough and he just cried and cried.

Anyway, after Miah drove off, I brought him back into the bathroom and took his pants and undies and socks off. He *demanded* that I put them back on. "I want my potty pants on! I want my potty undies on! I want my potty socks back on!!" I told him we could put clean clothes on him, not dirty clothes.

He got so angry with me. He started throwing all three of the paper towel rolls we have in storage, and threw the vinegar bottle, too, that I was using to clean up the mess.

Then he also started throwing all his books around the house, too. The hallway looked like a disaster zone.

I ignored him most of the time and was washing up some dishes. He hit me on my bottom a few times, and when I told him that he'd get a time out if he did it one more time, he did it anyway. So to the timeout he went, where it was 2 minutes of me standing over him and putting him back in the corner. Oy vey! And all of this with a bare bottom! He had still refused to put his underwear or pants back on.

Finally, after about 15 minutes, he responded positively to me asking him if he wanted to snuggle. He was so tired. I took him into his bedroom and rocked him with Lovey, Soft Blue Blanket, and Green Blanket. He was so sad! All gaspy and shuddery and clingy. I kissed and hugged and rocked and cuddled him for about another 15 minutes, and he felt good enough to get his diaper on so we could take a nap.

How I'm going to manage these when Charlie comes, I don't know!

Forgiveness

Yesterday we were down in the basement and Henry was messing around with my computer, as I was using it. He knows he isn't supposed to, but it's irresistible to him. Anyway, something happened--like something shorted out or something--because he kept putting his earphones in the different slots. So the computer buzzed for a second and then went blank, and I couldn't even shut it off.

I sort of panicked, because I was working on a freelance project, and though I did make a backup relatively recently, there were things I hadn't yet backed up. I was convinced our hard drive fried and I would be unable to use my computer.

So I got sort of mad at Henry, and told him that it made me really sad that he disobeyed me about the computer when he knows he's not supposed to play with it, that it might be broken now, and that makes me sad.

He was *really* concerned (to the point he was almost in tears), and then he asked, "Do you forgive me, mommy?!" Oh, my heart broke. I say the same thing to him when I lose my temper with him, so I know how he feels when he just wants your forgiveness and wishes he hadn't done it in the first place. So I scooped him up, told him that I forgave him, and that everything was OK. He liked that.

More funny and sweet/heartbreaking things.

1. The other morning, Miah took Henry to the bathroom, and Henry pooped. Miah said the last little bit came out pretty runny (Henry said he had a tummy ache, poor guy). So when Henry saw the runny poop over the normal poop, he got all excited and said, "It *melted* Daddy! My poo poo MELTED!"

2. Two nights ago, when I was rocking him before bed, Henry asked, "When is Baby Charlie coming out?" and I told him when he gets bigger and stronger, then he'll come out. Henry settled back and said, "then I will hold him!" I thought that was sort of smart, and really sweet. He's looking forward to his new brother.

3. This isn't funny, it's heartbreaking. Yesterday, we were reading this book called "What's up, Duck?" about opposites. There are two ducks, and they are doing opposite things. So one page, one duck was happy, and one duck was sad. I did the emotions all exaggerated, and I guess I was too believeable, because I looked over to Henry, and his bottom lip was sticking out, and he had tears welling up in his eyes and he was breathing really heavily. He was *so* upset that the duck was sad. He said, "The duck? He misses his MAMA!" and then burst into tears. Oh, my sweet boy. I hugged and hugged him, and then we found a photo of that duck looking much happier and he felt better. When we read the book again afterward, he said, "Let's skip the sad page." He is *so* sensitive, you guys.

4. He wasn't listening to me very well the other day, and wasn't sitting on the potty like I asked him several times to do. All of a sudden, he got all huffy, and muttered, "FINE!" OMG, he sounded just like an 11-year-old girl.

Funny things Henry says

Henry loves making lists. Verbally, they're hysterical. He inflects just like we do. So he'll go over what we are planning on putting in the garden and say, "got some toMAAAAtoes, got some CAAAArrots, got some green BEEEEAAAAANNNS." So adorable.

----

One really, really cold morning (it was like -20), the furnace wouldn't start. Miah was already at work, so Henry and I went down to try to fix it. I was pretty worried, and I guess it showed, because Henry's been talking about the whole thing for several weeks now. He's obsessed with the furnace. Anyway, one of the cutest, sweetest things he's ever done was to say to me, "It's OK, mama, don't worry." Where on earth did he get that?!

----

This morning, he said that he wants to grow kitties in the garden. :)
